Speech delay???
My toddler is 20 months old & a friend of mine has a toddler whose a couple months older who goes to speech therapy for a speech delay. I stared reading articles stating (most but not all) toddlers 18-24 months say 20 or more words. I know some kids just talk when they’re ready & are later talkers than others but when do you know there’s speech delay? Here are all the words he says,
Ball
Hi
Please (pease)
Mommy
Poppy (for grandpa)
Doggie (do-wee)
Baby (ba-ey)
Booty (boo-ee)
Booboo
Cookie (tootie)
Book
Taco (caco)
Color (co-wer)
Potty (Po-wee)
When asked what the duck or chicken says, he will ask the correct noises.
As you can see, he doesn’t say a lot of them correctly.
My mom made a comment the other day that he should be saying more words, & that he still uses his own “baby language” which he does blabber on & on & when we go out in public & people talk to him he just goes on & on with his own language.
He uses & loves the potty (though not every time. We still use diapers & he still pees in them), he can point out in books where the ball is or where the bee is or whatever. He understands when I ask him to bring me his dinosaur or a book. Do you think he has a speech delay? When I or someone else ask him to say a certain word, he won’t do it. It didn’t really bother me until my mom made a comment about it
