Do I need surgery?

To start off, I’m 13, although I doubt that’s pertinent. Both of my parents are pediatric care providers, and my mom believes I have endometriosis. I have extremely long periods and severe cramps. She refuses to put me on the pill though, so do I need surgery?

Insurance usually requires that you try the pill for 3 months before getting the procedure done to see if you have endometriosis

I think other tests will be done first to look at your uterus and rule out other conditions, but from what I understand, endometriosis can only be definitively diagnosed through surgery. I would however see a gynecologist because pediatric care providers are not necessarily 100% qualified to make this diagnosis. When my gynecologist thought I had endometriosis, she recommended putting me on the Mirena IUD birth control because it thins the endometrium.

You will need to go to the dr and have an ultra sound done to determine if you do or they may need to run other tests to check to see if your hormones are normal and eliminate other possible reasons. In my opinion it’s completely ridiculous for her to refuse to put you on the pill but I don’t necessarily think it would help, if you need surgery you need surgery.

I had the worst periods. I missed field trips and birthdays. I tried all sorts of things. just had my first two pain free periods and so have 1 of my friends and my 12 year old neice. we went on the Harvard fertility diet (my niece only tried it to relieve periods). we still between 50 and 100 carbs and after just over a month your reproductive hormones which control endometriosis start to get to a healthier level. I am working closely with doctors because I am trying to convince and make enough money to work with a private concierge doctors that does some amazingly detailed blood work allowing me to see the full impact of diet. I really with at your age I had tried low carb for a couple months. if I had tried it I would have stick with it and saved myself almost a decade of monthly pain so bad I would miss work/school/college for two days every month. best of luck, from someone who suffered too
