Am I too sensitive?

Question

My Son is the first grandchild for both of my parents and my husband’s. And he is going through a phase that he would not go to any other people but me. And also terrible two phase. 
Last night we went out to dinner with my husband’s parents. My son usually doesn’t sit still in his high chair unless I put YouTube on for him. That way, we can enjoy our food. And last he wasn’t having it. He would not sit still, wanted to walk around and stuff. And when his grandparents wanted to hold him he refuses and hates it. And my MIL goes “you better behave better because your competition is coming. “ because my SIL is pregnant and due in September. It didn’t hit me until this morning. And now I think about it, it was kind of mean. So when the baby comes, she would love my son less ? Just because he is going through a phase ? I truly believe he will grow out it and they called me this morning to tell me they are concerned about his behavior? He is only 20months old. What do they expect from him ? Am I being too sensitive?

honestly,  I would not feel threatened by that. she probably said it as a joke.  it's the stuff people say to make light of the situation.
personally,  I think you are a bit sensitive. but that's just me.

Lol sounds like they could use some more small children around so they remember what they are like (aka a toddler will act like a toddler!). Don’t let them get to you!

Toddlers can be moody just like adults, but have limited communication so it’s even harder for them. 
Your in laws were probably making a joke. Most grandparents love their grandkids no matter what, my in laws joke they love their grandson more than there son 😂😂😂. Def a joke. With a new baby they will have to split their time and attention but that doesn’t split their love.
The phone call woulda pissed me off though.

I think it depends on the time it was said in. My daughter is also 20 months old and she won't sit still in a high chair she  we're out either, unless she has our phones, because there is too much to explore, she's also really clingy with me at the moment, so ignore them about his behaviour.

One, I don’t take my son out to dinner because he just can’t handle it and it isn’t enjoyable for me. Two, I don’t believe your MIL really means those things. She is just older and probably far removed from those baby days and clearly doesn’t remember what it was like. Deep breaths mama. I would let this go after you or your husband inform them this is normal child behavior.

Lol i have had my mom tell me and my mil tell my husband at separate times on different instances that grandparents love their grandkids more than their own kids....my mil said it first and i just rolled my eyes thinking shes just saying it ...then my mom told it to me too ...am like are u serious? hahaha...thats very cute if itd true...dont mind your mils comment you are being sensitive which every first time mom is to a certain extent...dont hold your breath cuz once there is another baby in the family there will be too many comparisons made between the kids..just remember all kids are loved equally and its not a competition to get your baby more love.As for your babyits normal for them to be hyper active when they are out.😊😊😊enjoy the arrival of your kids cousin the more the merrier!!

She probably didn’t mean it the way it came out. I definitely understand though, I would have been offended too. My own mother in law, after church one day, said to my daughter as she was eating a cookie “Be careful with all those cookies or you’ll get fat”. Now keep in mind my 21 month old is only maybe 25 pounds, if we’re lucky, eats like a horse and can still fit into some of her 12 month onesies. My husbands aunt saved me from making any comment by making it for me. She got all offended and said “Don’t tell her that!”  I really had to hold my tongue because I’m sure it came out worse than she intended but you are justified in feeling upset.

Totally feel you here. My son won’t go to my father at all and he’s always lecturing me on how he needs to get used to other people. I just ignore it because I know it’s something he will get better with as he grows, and I already see an increase in his confidence levels the last couple of months. They were probably making a joke, but the phone call I would just ignore. It’s their opinion and it’s certainly not correct! As someone else said, toddlers will be toddlers!!
