oral sex with hsv1

I was recently diagnosed with genital hsv1. My boyfriend had a blood test to get checked, and it came back positive. I know that I got it from him because I've been tested several times since we've been together, and it had been negative until recently. He had never been tested. Since he hasn't had an outbreak, there's no way of knowing if it's oral or genital, but I'm assuming oral because he was a virgin when we met. My question is, is it safe for him to perform oral sex on me if he already has oral hsv1? Could I potentially worsen his condition/cause an outbreak?

UPDATE: I think there are some points that need to be reiterated/clarified.

1) HSV1 is the type of herpes that usually causes cold sores. That being said, my boyfriend most likely had it orally and passed it to me.

2) I did not go into my relationship with herpes. I had been tested several times for both types of herpes before and during our relationship.
