from brown to blonde

I'm looking for a great dye for my dark brown hair I want to go to platinum blonde and I was wondering what's the best brand / brands to do that. I can't afford to go to a salon to get it done I'm on a strict budget since I'm saving to move and every penny counts. any advice? please only post from experience with dark brown hair and pics please. thanks. pic below is my hair color not the best lighting but it basically shows the color that it looks most of the time.
