brownish discharge, should I be concerned

So just recently I've been having rather gooey and brownish discharge rather than what I usually have. I haven't heard of it as being a symptom of some sort of infection but I also haven't had it before in my cycle. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, do they know what it is or what it might mean? EDIT: And just to clarify, it's been a few weeks since my last period, so I don't believe it's blood, but you tell me.
