TRIGGER WARNING — did my mother do the right thing?
so in early january 2018, i was raped by my ex-boyfriend. my current boyfriend helped me out of that relationship in late january.
he told his mom about the rape and she helped me tell my mom about it. i struggle with anxiety and depression, and i finally got the courage to tell my mom in early february. she waited a couple days to tell my dad. she didn't make me tell him myself because he and i have a really bad relationship. he's an emotionally abusive narcissist and he's mean to everyone in our family, including my mom.
when she told my dad, he got super angry with her, saying "why didn't you tell me" in a very rude way and such. he came up to my room and locked the door behind him and talked to me. he told me that he's making me go get tested, even though i had a couple periods since (mine is irregular).
i got tested in late february and my mom pulled me out of the public school i was in because the rapist went there as well. i lost all my credits and i'll have to retake all the classes.
i'm just wondering if you see this situation as i do. i think my mom handled it very well.
*some minor details about the rape itself:
•my ex has been telling everyone at my school that i consented, which is definitely not the case. i have confronted him about this, and i have tried my best to spread the truth about what has actually happened.
•i have graciously decided not to press charges, because his family is very poor and his parents are very sweet. i made him tell his father. i don't see a benefit for me if i were to press charges. there also is no evidence of it besides he and i's positions on the story, so it could possibly get us seen as giving false accusations.
•it was months ago, so i doubt i can still press charges. (i don't know much about where the law stands on this, i haven't researched it because i frankly want to forget that this happened.)
i also want to know if the eve community thinks i handled this well, too, because sometimes i feel like i made the wrong decision to not press charges. i lost everything because of this.
