Shoulder Dystocia

As

My first birth was extremely traumatic and I am now terrified for my next birth in February. Basically he was a week late and I was induced because his heart rate was showing distress while I was contracting. He ended up swallowing his meconium and getting stuck for about 3 minutes while inhaling the meconium further into his lungs. He had to go to the NICU for 2 days due to these complications. My discharge paperwork said he had Shoulder Dystocia and meconium aspiration.

Needless to say I am EXTREMELY scared to give birth again. Has anyone had a birth with shoulder Dystocia and then given birth naturally without it happening again? Did your doctor give you the option of a csection. I definitely don’t want a csection but I also don’t want to go through that birth again.

He wasn’t overly large just under 8lbs but I am very petite at 5ft so I don’t know if that was part of the problem. I haven’t asked my OB yet what the protocol is for delivery after shoulder Dystocia so I’m not sure what she will say.
