Children calling you by name?
I want to start by saying that if this is how your family is, I am NOT judging. Too each their own.
I was just wondering how common this is, and what are other people’s opinions?
My cousins have called their mom by her first name their entire lives. I have only ever heard them call her “mom” when being snarky towards her.
I also have a friend whose children (they’re toddlers) call her by her first name as well, or a nickname resembling her name.
Growing up, and even now, if I call my mom by her name in a joking way, she won’t respond. My son, who is 2, calls me mommy, but will every once in a while will call me by my name to be funny, and I just correct him.
I’ve always wondered if it causes confusion for the child to set his mom apart from any other woman he calls by name? I’m sure it doesn’t, but it has crossed my mind a few times how, and if, they view it differently.
