Irrational fear?

I'm 20 years old. I have never been to a gynecologist... and I have had menstrual issues since I've started my period since at 11 years old. I have been sexually active since a young age too. Going to see a regular doctor gives me anxiety, and I've been putting off seeing a gynecologist for a long time. I have an appointment in October. Ladies.. I am so scared... it's a woman's health exam, so they are doing it all. What can I expect? How do I calm down? I need some advice. I know the second I walk through those doors I'm going to be a train wreck. What is the process? What kind of things should I expect? Thank you ladies

It’s such an easy thing to do I promise.. let the doctor know it’s your first time and that you’re nervous, so if they could explain the process while it’s happening it would help you.. I was so afraid my first time at the OB-GYN but it wasn’t bad in the least amount and now it’s so simple

Girl, I promise if I can, you can. Started my period at 9, sexually active since 16 (only with my ex and soon to be husband). I told my fiancé I was nervous about going to the lady doc but that I felt like I needed to since I’m 22, never been, and planning a wedding. He got so upset! Not that I was going, but that I hadn’t been before. In my house we didn’t talk about anything. I hid my first period from my mom because I thought I did something wrong, went through scares alone, and have always been clueless about education myself other than what friends and google taught me (not a good idea). Going to the lady doc was the EASIEST doctors appointment I’ve ever been to. Tell them everything, answer their questions, and if yours are as fabulous as mime you will be in and out without feeling a thing in less than 10 minutes. I started my appointment by telling every nurse, doctor, and lady asking me questions with “I’ve never done anything like this before, I’m clueless!”

It’s normal girl I get teary eyed every time and i always want a female doctor lol idk why but it just feels so personal to me and some women don’t care at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s no big deal. One thing that really helps is there’s always supposed to be a nurse in there as well as your doctor and I always tell the nurse about my anxiety that comes with these kind of appointments and that I’m really emotional and upset and they’re usually always really sweet to me and comforting I’ve even had a few hold my hand and it truly helps a lot. They’re women and they understand.

It’s good that your finally going! One positive you can think about is that you are going to keep yourself healthy! After you go once you’ll realize it’s not that big of a deal and it will be over before you know it.
