My birthing experience ( long post)
I was wanting to share my birthing experience with everyone in the ‘glow world’ and to journal it for myself as well for quite sometime. It took me exactly 6 weeks to get to write it down. So, I was having this ‘ pure low risk pregnancy’ till July 11th. I went for my 32 weeks doctor’s visit on 9th July. On 10th we did our pregnancy photoshoot. From 10th July midnight, I started feeling uncomfortable. On 11th morning, I started having cramping like pain. I thought may be a little rest would help, so, I laid down through the day. But the pain did not go away. I called my ob’s office and they told me to visit the hospital for a check up. We went to the ob triage, they took urine sample and attached me to the monitor. They monitored me for an hour. By the time the contractions were feeling like pretty much regular (7-8 mins apart). Doctor checked my cervix and said, it is closed. Their could be little urine infection but nothing to be worried about. They told me to go home. When I asked, what to do with the pain, the nurse told me to take Tylenol ( she seemed so unaware about contraction pain) . We went back home with the same pain. I took 6 Tylenols throughout the night but the pain became more consistent. I could not sleep. In the morning, when I went to pee, I saw some blood. Though the doctor said the other day that after cervical exam, little blood is normal, I got scared. I told my husband and we rushed to the hospital. There, again they strapped me with monitors and was not taking the pain in the beginning very seriously ( though finally they decided to treat me for the pain ).Contractions were 5 mins apart now. Suddenly the nurse there realized, those were real contractions. Doctor checked me and I was 6 cm dilated. We could see their faces changed. Immediately they pushed IV for medication to delay contractions and I was transported to delivery room. They pushed a steroid as well which could strengthen my baby’s lungs. NICU team came and explained to us everything. I was so overwhelmed and devastated at the same time. Suddenly my pregnancy became ‘ high risk’. Me and my husband were trying to find answers for why this happened, but nobody knew. Till 4pm ( from 8:30am) , I remained at 6 cm and the pain subsided. At 6pm they decided to transfer me to pp room for observation. I was transferred there around 6:30pm and my husband ordered some food for me as I was very hungry. The food came , as soon as I was about to eat , sharp contractions started again. Doctor checked again and I was 8 cm. I was at once transferred to the delivery room again( couldn’t eat a bite). Doctor’s told me to get epidural. I didn’t know much about it and admitted to get it. My spinal scoliosis made the experience worst ever. I cried like crazy coz it was so painful. But finally after it was done, the pain was gone and I could sleep for sometime after almost 36 hours. It seemed like the contractions had stopped. The doctors said there’s no use of the medication ( contraction delaying) anymore. By midnight, nurse checked me and I was not feeling any contraction pain but just sharp pain at times at the sight of epidural. Me and my husband were praying that I could make it until the second dose of steroid. But unfortunately , around 1:30 am by doctor told me that I am fully dilated. They still waited for about an hour for my water to break. It was still intact at 2:45am so, I started to push. Baby was head down. Doctors were excited to keep the water intact but baby was having difficulty to come out because of it. So, doctor broke the water. My husband was there to soothe me while I pushed out our beautiful baby boy Shomrik finally at 4:46am on 13th of July. It was the most beautiful moment of our lives. He was 3lbs3oz and 16and 1/2 inches long. He came out looking around everywhere. I got to hold him for few seconds. Before we could realize anything, he was transferred to NICU. He is there since then. He was breathing on his own after his birth but after few hours he couldn’t anymore, so, he was put on ventilator. He had to be on jet ventilator for few days as his lungs were weaker than average 32 weeker. Then he was on cpap for a small time. Now he is still needing little oxygen support so, he is on 2lit nasal cannula. He is learning to feed now. We are eagerly waiting for him to come home free of every tubes. He is a fighter. Please pray for my little son.
Update: my sweet little boy is getting ready to come home ❤️
