This is starting to become a concern of mine because my son will only eat breastmilk, and he won’t even eat from a bottle or sippy cup. 
He will eat the cereal if he is hungry sometimes, but sometimes he just gets frustrated and wants my breast.
He maybe has a tablespoon of very soupy oatmeal cereal once every 2 days. 
His pediatrician said a couple times a day, but from what I read it is just a learning process until they’re 1 then they really need other foods.

Whatever you do, be sure to feed real foods AFTER breastmilk or formula so they don’t fill up. Breastmilk or formula should still be baby’s primary source of nutrition until age 1.

We are doing baby led weaning. At the moment he is 6mo and eats once a day, but they recommend to have that up to three meals by 9/10 months. Because he is feeding himself whole foods his intake would not be as high as babies who are being spoon fed purees. We have been told that's fine and to keep going with what we are doing. 
If I am not mistaken the WHO recommends breast milk (/formula) continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one-third during the second year of life.

By age 1 they should have 3 meals & 2 snacks a day, but you can slowly work up to that. We just started introducing finger foods a couple weeks ago (skipping cereal) and do twice a day. But he only eats however much he wants. At the most he’s eaten maybe 2-3 “sticks” (we cut things into about the size of my finger) but lots of times he eats < 1/2 of 1. Amount isn’t as important as just practicing & trying new flavors & textures.

My LO is eating 3 “meals” and at least 2 snacks and still breastfeeds after each “meal”. Our ped told us that 2 meals a day with a couple of snacks would be okay at his age but only because of how developed he is and how big he is. 
Last week he didnt want to eat his lunch or dinner 🤷🏼‍♀️
