Cloth vs disposable diapers?

I’m 4 and a half weeks along and am researching pretty much EVERYTHING baby! One thing I’m considering is using cloth diapers. For those of you who have used them, what was your experience like?

Loved it and have saved so much money. 1-2 extra loads of laundry a week aren’t a big deal to me. We mostly use pockets, so the stuffing is a pain but I just do it while watching tv.

We use cloth while at home but disposables for overnight and when we go somewhere. There are ways to make them not leak overnight but I couldn’t stand my son having wetness against him all night. And as far as wearing them while out, after my second diaper was ruined because I forgot it in the wet bag, we stopped that too. So cloth is definitely doable 24/7, just not for us. If you do decide to do it, don’t be put off by the prices. You can get really good ones second hand and I’ve had a lot of success with “china cheapies” from amazon. We have a lot that are still in excellent condition and we’ve been using them since my son was about 1-2 months (he’s now 19 months). My main advice would be to always line dry, never in the dryer, and it will extend the life of your diapers a lot. Good luck!!!

I didn’t know anything about cloth before being pregnant. I did my research and bought a bunch of different types.
I’m 13 weeks in and love it! Honestly the laundry isn’t bad. It’s so nice to always have diapers. Just wash and you have a new pack!
Also mine have held the pee/poo better than my disposables. I’ve only had blowouts when using the disposables actually. 
I say go for it!!

Loved using cloth with #1! Planning to use it with this one as well! I recommend getting a few different styles and brands to see what works best for you and your baby. My all time favorite style is covers. Seems that they held better than anything with a non waterproof lining. Bumgenius flips are great and not too expensive. Check cotton babies.com they have good sales sometimes. I also love work at home mom diapers and make my own as well. There’s a group on Facebook that’s awesome it’s called Fluffbutt Support Uncensored and it’s not dedicated to any particular style or brand so you can ask questions, post fit checks etc.

Started from newborn stage and absolutely loved it. Had to do some tweaking along the way but there are so many other options and alternatives for troubleshooting. Wish I’d done it with our first baby. I was too intimidated. Best wishes! This group is great- filled with knowledge!

We used cloth with my son! It was great! I plan on doing it again with my twins. We started when he was about 6 weeks old. I always had disposable on hand for when we went somewhere or at night time- they just hold more during the night! We had to stop when my son was 10-11 months because he would pee through them so fast. It was nice to save money! I would advise to get enough so you don't have to do laundry every day. I think we did laundry every other day.

We only use disposables when we're traveling long distance.  We've had great success with cloth, although there is a learning curve.  Plus they're so darn cute!

We do it all the time except at night. My baby was getting a rash from the wetness at night and we couldn’t quite figure out how to solve it, but we are happy with our arrangements. Our sitter is good at it now after some practice and my daughter is totally happy, too! It’s way easier than most people imagine.

So far my experience has been great, i didnt start till my baby was a few weeks old just cause its kinda scary at first. I use alvas and everywhere i see ppl dont like microfiber inserts but ive had no issue with them. I also use prefolds with covers and i love them unless she poops. I use disposable liners somedays when I know she due to poo so i dont have to wash poo off the diaper. I use regular wipes cause i prefer to not have to deal with washing  washable wipes. I also still use diapers too, when out and about and at night. So thats not really using alot of diapers but its convenient.
