Something wrong at anatomy scan?!

I had my 20 week anatomy scan yesterday. The doctor said she couldn’t see 2 of the 4 chambers of her heart. She wants me to come back in 4 weeks. Has anyone dealt with this? I’m freaking out so much right now.

We lost a baby late term to heart defect. First thing I’ll tell you is that if they thought it was a HUGE problem at the anatomy scan they would have brought in another doctor for an echo cardiogram - which is done right there with the same ultrasound machine. I wouldn’t spend a lot of time over thinking it. Generally, if they’re concerned they’ll look at you immediately or have you back in the following couple of days. And most doctors are up front if they think there’s an issue. Breathe momma! Baby is going to be okay. 💕

This happened with me. Baby was simply not cooperating. We went back in and heart looked perfect. Don’t worry, lady! It happens

I’ve had two ultrasounds the last 2 weeks because they can’t see all of the heart... I go back the end of this month because baby will be bigger. If they didn’t suggest a specialist I’m sure everything is fine.

It happened with my daughter (a year and a half ago). She was cooperating, so I went back and everything was fine. This pregnancy my son didn’t cooperate at 18 weeks at my high risk ultrasound. I have to go back at 22 weeks to get one picture of his heart she needs. The ultrasound tech said she doesn’t like to do anatomy scans before 21 weeks because it’s hard to see everything especially with the baby moving all over the place.  It’s nerve wrecking but if they thought anything was seriously wrong theyd have you see a specialist before 4 weeks.

My first kept turning her back and not cooperating with cardiac views. I had to come back.  The doctor and the sonographer said everything looked fine from redo anatomy scan, and I point blank asked the doctor if there was a problem she saw that warranted further study because she recommended echo and she couldn't come up with one. Sometimes, defensive medicine causes more stress than it prevents. I agree with above, if there were any issue, they would have brought in doc to take a closer look and not waited four more weeks to get another look.

I had mine done on Wednesday. They were having me come back for the same reason. I was worried to death. When the doc came in he took a look and was able to find the parts of the heart they couldn’t find right away. He said the baby happened to move to the perfect position at that time. I wouldn’t worry at all. They said it was just babe being stubborn.

This happened to a friend of mine and her baby turned out perfectly fine! It was just the position baby was in.

I had the same thing happen with my son who is now a healthy three year old. They just can’t see all the chambers and want to get the best visual they can. As someone said, if someone was worried, you would have had a doctor follow up immediately. I remember crying a month later when they called to say everything was just fine. I understand the stress but look at it this way. You get to see another ultrasound of your little one.
