Relocating to L.A.

Hi, I’m a 18 year old young woman looking to relocate to L.A. from Chicago. Being from Chicago I’m already used to the fast paced city life. I was planning to attend community college and rent myself an apartment while doing so. First off I have 2 questions;

1) Where would I be able to go get birth control at? Are there any planned parenthood’s?

2) How is living in L.A.?

Please let me know thanks!

Good luck! I’m trying to get OUT of LA. it’s really nasty, traffic is insane and it’s gotten ridiculously expensive. Everyone I talk to seem to be struggling. You won’t have a problem finding a planned parenthood, but unless you are bringing in 6k a month you won’t be living comfortably.

You can get birth control at planned parenthood - there are many locations.Watch out, LA is very expensive. Anything under $1,000 will be in unsafe neighborhoods. Always give yourself extra time to get to places. Traffic is no joke here!

Trying to move out of LA here(lived here 20 years)I rent a tiny 1 bedroom in the city of Compton for 1,350 a month and there’s been 3 murders in my neighborhood this year(meaning the good neighborhoods are at least 2k for 1bedroom). My husband and I are saving up so we can move out to the country where life is peaceful and easy. Los Angeles is a very toxic city. Be careful. Good luck.

L. A..... There's nothing like it. We have the beach, desert, nation forest and a lot of history and diversity!! There is always something to do... If you get "bored" living here I'm sure one of us on these comments can give you things to do daily LOL There is a lot of everything and never a dull moment.... I have lived here 29 of my 30 years of existence in East L.A.... With that being said.....The greater Los Angeles area has declined in a lot. The cost of living is ridiculous at this point. Homes in a "bad neighborhood" like mine are going for a minimum of $600k, there is ZERO parking anywhere you go, the homeless issues is crazy - homeless people pretty much run any place they decide to set a tent up and the city does nothing about it. (Beware Squatters!!!!) more people are living in RVs, traffic right now is still high (Covid fear who) I live 4 miles from downtown LA and it takes me 20 minutes minimum to get there. 🙄I wouldn't say don't move here because we all need to experience L. A. living, just be prepared! It is not all roses and things are not cheap here either 🙁 It's unlike any other. As I've grown, lived in Vegas and want to be more than a renter my entire life, I am ready to leave L. A. again..... If you move here, congrats! Document everything, try everything (minus drugs lol) that's offered to you in this amazing city and enjoy it. It's truly special. This is going to be such an exciting chapter for you.

Yeah definitely don’t do drugs here. Fentanyl overdoses are a huge problem in the area and there have been cases of other things being laced with Fentanyl.

How about San Diego instead? Lol LA is pretty dirty actually and all those posts are correct - super expensive and rather bad areas! SD is also pricy but not very dirty. Traffic is bad in SD but not as bad as LA. good luck either way! 😃

Lol I live in San Diego and from here. I wasn’t trying to be a bitch. I was making the comment San Diego is expensive cheapest place you can get is a bedroom for rent around 800 and a studio for around 1600. Southern ca all around is expensive.

Yes so I’m originally from Vegas and moved to LA to be with my husband when we were dating. I loved it at first because it was so different and the scenery in some areas is beautiful and the shopping is great. However, the traffic is just awful. Yes, it’s super expensive . We moved back to Vegas to have a better, and more calm life . Unfortunately, my husbands business does better in LA so we are moving back in a few months ☹️. Part of me loves LA but also hates it. It’s different. I also don’t like how crowded it is constantly 😐. But hey you’ll adjust if you like it there. Best of luck 🍀

I was born and raised in California. I've lived in Southern California all my life and my husband and I hate it. We live in Riverside county which is ALOT cheaper then LA and Orange county but its still expensive. You can rent a small house out here for around 1300 to 1500 a month in a decent to good neighborhood. LA you pay 1600 for a tiny shoe box of an apartment with 1 bedroom and a shifty neighborhood. Orange county is nice but you'll pay 2100 to 2400 a month for a 1 bedroom to maybe a 2 bedroom in an ok neighborhood. My hubby works in Orange county and commutes 1 1/2 hrs every day to and from work but we have a 4 bedroom house for the price of a 2 bedroom apartment in Orange county. Planned parenthood is everywhere you will have no problem finding them.
