Masturbation advice

I’ve recently bought myself a dildo (I’m a virgin) and upon using it realized that it’s extremely uncomfortable after about 3 inches. I’ve only ever used 1 finger to masturbate, frankly because I have baby hands, and 2 fingers made it hard to use the longest one. Is this pain normal? Can I get some advice on how to ease the pain and make it easier to use?
