To start a business or not to start one?!?!

Question

My husband wants me to work from home. So I can be with the kids/be involved with their school functions which I love. The ages are 9,4,and 2. I am thinking of getting a vinyl machine and start making custom t-shirts and selling them via etsy/facebook/eBay or something of that nature. I think it's really cool and I love the idea. I also am very afraid of taking that first step. 😔

Ehh. I dont think its a good idea. First off its very aresssful as you dont have a set income every month. Some months you do really well and some months you earn basically nothing. Also you need to do something unique if you want people to buy your stuff. And working from home while raising kids is not as easy as it sounds. The kids wont let you work especially the little one. I also have a 2 year old and i am going to  school and he doesnt let me study. So i only have time when he is asleep. Idk i feel like its not a good idea but you do you.

I say go for it! It is harder working from home than you'd imagine but it's do-able. If your passion is to stay home with your kids then you just need to focus on that and work your tail off to make it happen. It helps if you have a passion for whatever it is you are making/doing too, it makes the late nights easier 😂 Also making sure that you are doing something different, something that makes your shop stand out from the others. Or if you can do it cheaper than others. Time management is essential when working from home, set aside 'work hours' like you have in a regular job. Good luck!!

If you are passionate and determined, you can make it work! I’m in the same boat with trying to start my own business to run from home. I’m going into a different type of product but my head is where yours is. I know it won’t be easy. We have an almost 16 month old and trying for #2. I know it’s going to be very hard to work from home with two very young ones but I’m determined and I’m a firm believer in the saying “when there’s a will there’s a way”! Go for it! Don’t be afraid of failure, but don’t give up easy either. Fight through the hurdles and learn from them :)

It’s difficult to work from home, the first thing the kid will want to be involved in is what you’re doing. I work from home and when my son was 11 months, I had to begin part time daycare for him because I couldn’t handle him constantly wanting to mash my keyboard and grab my laptop. If you have a more autonomous child... maybe.

I say go for it! If you are really passionate about something, go for it! I started an Education Consulting Business from home back in February. I was passionate about continuing my career as an educator without leaving my baby girl. I love my business and it is going far greater than I could have ever imagined. Working from home with a 10-month old is not easy, but I enjoy every moment of it. I feel so blessed to be able to stay home with my baby girl and continue my career. I get to experience all of her milestones and we get to have our mommy/daughter dates to museums, parks, aquarium, zoo, etc. Like I said, it's not easy, but I LOVE it! When my husband comes home from work and we eat dinner, I am officially "off duty" and I have time to catch up on any work I did not get done during the day or I simply just relax while he takes care of our daughter. If you want to start your business, go for it girl!!! If you have the right support system, you can definitely survive working from home!
