Losing my Virginity Soon?!?!?!???!

So i am 18 years old and I am in my second month of college as a freshman. There is this guy that I am talking to and we are headed down the path of a relationship, so far we have made out and fooled around but that is it. I am a virgin but he is not and during the times we have made out I have felt like taking things further and so has he but we never do because of my virginity. We care deeply for one another and I really do trust him and I want to go further with him and i am not even scared to lose it now that I think about it, I feel ready but protection is the problem. We will definitely use condoms but I want to start taking birth control but money is tight with my family right now and we don't really have insurance and i don't even have a general doctor/gyno that i visit, so what do I do???? Will the protection of a condom do justice or will I need more?
