Maintaining our lady area!

Okay ladies I’m having a difficult time here. I’m really into having it pretty smooth down there with little to no hair. My problem is that waxing was way too painful (actually bruised). When I use my razor even brand new I always bleed and it’s not super smooth unless I go against the way the hair grows! I just use the basic disposable razor and bar of soap. Does anyone have a special trick? I’ve heard of getting a beard trimmer small razor that doesn’t rotate, but does it make it smooth?
