Attention Teachers: Let’s Talk Maternity Leave!

Any teachers out there already planning for maternity leave sub plans? How much planning are you doing for your sub? I teach 4th grade and teach all subjects. My district requires 2 weeks of sub plans. Currently, I have planned out about the majority of all major concepts my sub will need to teach and do during my maternity leave. Not necessarily sub plans per day but a sub plan at a glance if you want to call it that. Am I doing too much? The following is what’s in my maternity leave binder with full descriptions of what it is and when to give them on an ELA and Math calendar. Maternity Leave: November 20th-March 1st or sooner.

*Exit tickets

*Quizzes

*Spelling words

*Unit tests (ELA&Math)

*Entry tasks

*Answer keys for all entry tasks, exit tickets, quizzes, and tests

*Anchor chart photos (Math&ELA)

*Math notebook notes

*Read aloud book

*Christmas Activities

*Valentine’s Day Activities

*Print shop created and given to team to send and distribute when I’m gone

*Math and ELA station how to’s

*Math and ELA station games and guided reading books labeled and organized

*Behavior and Classroom Management

*Explanation of expectations

Question is: Am I doing too much? Be honest and share what you’re doing for your sub. My test scores have always been top notch for my grade level and school. I can’t help but over plan. Hoping if I plan it accordingly it won’t be too hard to come back to. That’s the hope anyway.....we’ll see if I get a good sub or not. Keep in mind conferences are 2 weeks after I come back so I need all the data I can get! Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance!
