Very low iron!! Advice?

So i went for my glucose test on Thursday and got a call from my doctor today and she had told me my results had come back and my iron was extremely low. Normal levels range from 12-15.5 and below that could indicate anemia. She didn’t say if i had anemia or not but my iron levels are a 7. This was just the desk lady not my actual OB so she couldn’t really answer any of my questions but she told me which otc iron supplement to get. I have an appt tomorrow with my ob and not sure what to expect. Is this a big deal? I did the worst thing i could have done and googled it and saw some not so good things pop up. Is it dangerous? Is baby okay? I read a few things related to ulcers as well. I read internal bleeding can cause anemia. I have a history or stomach ulcers and a ripped esophagus. I had an endoscopy in January and they said they weren’t going to clamp them because they seemed to be healing good on their own. Im thinking maybe they have become inflamed and open again? I have been getting really bad heartburn again and i thought i tasted blood while coughing the order day.. what could this mean and what can they do??

Becoming anemic in pregnancy is actually very common. I was anemic with my son and am again with this pregnancy. Take the otc slow fe (or whichever they recommended to you) and you and baby should be fine. Of course ask the OB any questions you have tomorrow and stop googling! 😊 remember with google you are usually reading up on rare and worst case scenarios

U just need better nutrition and if u cant do that, then take more iron..the only bad part a put taking more pills is the constipation it can give u.. Google iron rich food if ur not aure what foods have more iron

Don’t worry, your OB will just put you on high dose of iron tabs. I’ve been severely anaemic since having a miscarriage end of last year, and every month I’m having blood tests and my OB has increased my dosage every month as it’s gone lower. Been trying to increase my iron intake with foods such spinach, beans, whole grains, turkey etc. Definitely try with your diet because iron tablets can bung u up terribly! Your doc will know what’s best for u though, don’t worry about the baby, it can’t do harm x

I’ve had low iron since my very first blood draw. At my glucose test, it was even lower, so my dose of iron was doubled. It’s partially due to all the extra blood in your body. I had low iron with my first, but not this low.

7 is pretty low, but the worst that will happen is you’ll feel really rubbish. Iron supplements are the best way of getting it back into you. If it was very very low you would be given an iron injection. I had problems with being anemic before being pregnant so my doctor prescribed iron tablets. Can cause constipation, but they work. Changing your diet can help. My problem was very heavy periods so diet change didn’t help

I was called with the same news after my test. Don’t google anything else and go buy an OTC ....I was recommended Spring Valley from Wal Mart ...it’s like 3$ for 100 tablets on top of your previtamins. The worst you could be doing right now for the baby is stressing so take a deep breath and know you’re not the only one, this is very common.

Like others have said already low iron in pregnancy is extremely common. Both my pregnancies I needed to take iron supplements starting in my 2nd trimester until the end.

My iron levels were very low at my glucose test so now I’m on additional iron supplements on top of the prenatal vitamins. It’s actually really common to have low iron in your 3rd trimester

I am pregnant with my third and anemic. I was also anemic with my first. You have nothing to worry about! If your doctor was truly concerned you would have been called in immediately. I was called in and prescribed iron 2x a day until due date. All my OB told me was she would check my levels here in two weeks. Just don't stess too much (:
