Thoughts after our prenatal class

Cheryl • Mum of two 🐶🐯

I know I'll probably get all sorts of opposing opinions on this. Our second prenatal class on Monday was on the labour itself leading up to the birth. We learned so much about it, even though we've been reading up on the topic. The midwife went into the actual practical details like how to manage the pain of contractions and the emotions of a pregnant woman in labour, all the while backing up all her advice with scientific evidence. I was always in favour of the au naturel approach, until it gets unbearable, maybe only using gas and air. I think my husband is more comfortable with this idea now, especially since the class has given him more tools he can use to help me through the pain. Talked to my MIL about it too and she says that's her pov too and it was what she'd experienced. So in short, I'll only use epidural when the pain is so unbearable that I'm on the verge of passing out... And definitely no induction unless medically necessary coz it drastically increases the risk of c sections etc. Not sure what the point of this post is.... I just wanted to rant a bit after the class... Ooo and an interesting thing I learnt. That it's common for women to feel anxious right before full dilation. Saying that she can't do it, she wants it to stop etc etc. The midwife says it's a sign for them that the mother is ready to push 😅
