Tips for brushing teeth needed

My nearly 2 year is putting up a fighting when I try to brush his teeth. He’s had his teeth and gums brushed twice daily from about 6 months before he even had any teeth so he should be used to it. He loves coming to brush his teeth but he won’t let me brush his teeth he has to do it himself. He then throws a tantrum if I try to brush his teeth. Obviously he’s not brushing them right he’s just chewing on the brush. Any suggestions? I’ve tried songs and tickling him.
