2yo refusing to go to bed after arrival of newborn??

Question

Help!! New baby only 3 days only and our 2yo, who usually wanted to go to bed at 7 and lay down kissed and waved us bye is now refusing to go into his room at bedtime and wanting to stay up, even though he is clearly shattered.
What ca. We do to nip this in the bud?

We just went through this with our son. He was always an excellent napper and nighttime sleeper. Once my daughter was born, he gave us such a HARD time. He would scream for 30 mins+ at nap time and fight us so hard for bedtime. We just pushed through and kept up with the normal routine and now he’s back to normal after about 4 weeks. It’s been a longgg month, lots of tears for him and I, but we made it. Just know as tough as it is right now, it won’t last forever. Hang in there!!!

Depending how much he weighs, Zarbees has a 1mg melatonin sleep aid for toddlers (30lb+)  
I give my 3ft tall 31lb girl a half of one if she is miserable and it helps her fall asleep within 15 mins.  I plan to keep it on hand in case she acts up after her baby brothers arrival in January. Just a suggestion.

We had our newborn in April and July baby just ignores him but wants all our attention. We have been co sleepers since he was a baby so daddy sleeps in him room with toddler and I sleep in our room with baby cause I nurse.

Same happened with us. Their little worlds have been rocked. It takes some time for them to get used to baby’s presence. Special time one on one with my son, helping him feel valued and finding a way to help him participate helped. We’re 4 months in and he’s doing great now! A friend told me to expect some “dark days” after baby comes home (tantrums, fighting bedtime, broken routines) but that they wouldn’t last. She was right! I would say it took a few weeks. Enlist help where you can!

Just went through the same thing here too! Keep to the same routine don’t change anything it will get better.  My daughter is 3 weeks now and my toddler finally got back to her schedule last week.

It gets better! My son had this issue if it’s still affecting his nap time sadly. He gets so excited to see his baby sister that he can’t wind down for bedtime. Our pediatrician warned us that he may have a major regression after the baby is born, he said it could last up to 5 months. At bedtime I would have him say goodnight to his baby sister and even have baby and I lay in his bed to read a book at bedtime then I would tell him baby sister has to go to bed. It seemed to help him go to sleep knowing sister was also going to bed.
