Is this normal?

So this is nothing too gross I swear, but my period cramps get so bad on the first day that I'll end up on the floor crying cause I can't get up, but only on the first day before I take painkillers (which take like an hour to kick in fml) is it normal to have cramps this bad? Because it seems that they keep getting worse and worse with each cycle. If it is can I please have some tips on how to help them?
