Is my mom overreacting

I turn 21 in a week; and my boyfriend has been mistreating me in a sense of namecalling and saying mean things to me when we fight. it isn’t physical or anything, and i went to my mom because i have no friends or anything to go to, just to vent. now my mom wants to go after him and tell him off and shit etc.. I told her i’m almost 21 I don’t think she should be stepping in as he is 24. If I was 15 then maybe. Advice??
