37w3d what’s going on?

Question

How come my midwife/obgyn isn’t checking my dilation? I figured around now they would check atleast once in awhile not every appointment for infection. But.... 🤷🏼‍♀️ why? She’s weighing pretty big too so I wanna know if I’m dilating or not, I’ve been doing the yoga ball bouncing also.

I think it depends on the doctor.
With my first the doctor checked my dilation at 38 weeksish.  I didn't ask, he just said he was going to check, I was 2 cm.
With my second, different doctor, I wasnt checked at all.  But I had to be induced at 39 weeks due to preeclampsia.
This is my third, same doctor as 2nd and all I know is they are gonna do a strep test at my visit this week.  I've never heard him mention it so I'm just gonna go with it lol.
It doesnt hurt to ask your ob/midwife if you're curious.

Was never checked with my first and I’m now 37w with my second and haven’t been checked either. None of my friends here in Australia were ever checked either? Think they only do it here if necessary?

My doctor started check me me at 36 weeks. I’ve had 2 checks. The first one I wasn’t effaced at all or dilated. The one last week I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated. If you want a cervical check, you can request one. Mine does it unless you tell her you don’t want one. I just don’t have the self control to not know so I haven’t told her not to! 😬

Most don't do a cervical check because we stress or think too much into if we are told we have begun to dilate. My ob only did at 36 weeks because baby is breech and I mentioned my cramps and back pain that I have been experiencing in which he wanted to do an exam and was 2cm dilated. But he also wanted me to go to l & d for monitoring to make sure I wasnt having contractions if baby was still breech.

Every doc is different. Some will check, some won’t. Some believe cervical checks can increase the likelihood of going into early labor. Some don’t just because it’s not necessarily an indication of when labor will happen. You could be one or more centimeters dilated for weeks before you actually go into labor. 
My doc just did my first check at 36 weeks. If you want a check, ask for one. But just know that if you’re dilated, that doesn’t always mean labor is eminent. I’m currently dilated 1 cm but I’m certain my little one is gonna hang in there for awhile.

have you asked to get checked? most dr won't check unless you been having like on and off cramping with thus baby (bby#5) my ob checked my cervix at 32weeks but cause i told her i been having on and off cramping since i hit the 30weeks
