Are these names unusable now? Read before voting!

Question

I’m expecting a boy in February! Just found out that my brother and his wife, due in April, are having a girl! They have chosen the first name Livia. 
I live out of state and have no plans to return. We visit during the summer and holidays. If we have a girl next, do I have to automatically not use Lydia or Olivia which have been on our lists forever? 
I know my brother and his wife wouldn’t care but obviously the names are similar so it could be confusing in conversation but I don’t mind. 🤷‍♀️

I would still use Lydia. I think Olivia may be too similar though unless you use it for the middle name.

I still think with him being your brother and them being first cousins that would be odd imo. I would just search for other names. I’m sure you’d find something even better but it’s your child and if you want to use it, go for it.

It really doesn’t matter. Our nephew is named Jackson... we were planning on naming our son Jack.
Literally thousands of people all share the same name, what does it matter if you’re related 🤷🏼‍♀️
In school we had cousins both named Brittany, it never was an issue.

I’m struggling with this too! My boyfriends sister named her daughter layla and we like the name Lola.. but I find they are too similar.. so trying to find another name I like!

Still need to ask my husband, but I think one of his out-of-state cousins is named Michael. My husband is named Michel, but it’s a family name passed down from father to son for him (the trend is dying with us unless his brother picks it up. I hate that my FIL has the same name, it’s too common and always spelled wrong — even on important documents where we’ve already stated the unique spelling). I think the cousin is the son of one of my MIL’s disliked sisters. My husband’s extended family has never been close like mine are. So it apparently hasn’t been a problem since I’m just realizing the duplicity this weekend. If that helps.

I think it's only weird if they're siblings. My Great grandmother named two of her sons Harry lol Two of my mom's cousins had the exact same name, their mothers were sisters.
As long as it's not the same exact name, I don't see a problem. Maybe you would end up with nicknames anyways, like Olive, Liv, Via etc.
If you're still uncomfortable just talk to your brother about it and tell him the dilemna you're having.
