First appt? Sonogram? Risks?

Hey ladies:) i was doing some reading on sonograms and dopplers how they have their own set of risks. And i do not want any scans until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Considering this, when should i go to my first appt? I was thinking 11 weeks we would be able to hear the heartbeat via a fetoscope :) any advice? Earlier or later?

My midwife said with excessive use of the Doppler the known side effect is that the children tend to be more left handed. Not sure what that means but it is obviously doing something to encourage that and there could be more not seen changes that are not studied yet.

I had like 6+ ultrasounds with my last plus they used the Doppler every appointment woth my last son and hes totally fine.......

I understand your concern. I had the same this pregnancy (my second) and only had one ultrasound to rule out twins. I won’t have any more. 
Just remember that it is within your rights to refuse ANY medical intervention, including ultrasound. You do not HAVE to have any if you choose not to. 
It’s also never too late to switch to a provider that is supportive of and who encourages informed choice.

we didn't get to hear the heartbeat until about 20 weeks with the fetoscope. but once we could, we bought our own and got to listen whenever we wanted with no risks.

They say high risk they’d wait for 14-16 weeks just because the sound waves can be too strong on baby’s heart with the ultrasound. Maybe wait until 12 weeks?

They are to make sure your baby is growing correctly and healthy. There’s nothing wrong with getting ultrasounds. Maybe ask to spread them out more. When I do get pregnant again I will be considered high risk because I have a heart condition and I had an ectopic in July. They have to do a placement scan to make sure baby is implanted in the right place and all that. If you are not high risk you probably won’t need as many sonograms though.
