I agree with expert professionals being able to charge the time they have spent for a court hearing. 
You are requiring a service, no different to hiring the lawyer for the legal side of the case. Medical professionals should not be forced to work for free.

I work in the legal system. They aren’t paid to sway their opinion. They are paid to give their expert opinion. It’s their job. You can’t subpoena a random doctor to give their expert opinion. You have to pay them.

Yes, I agree with them being paid. 
My partner has done this, and I know the money isn’t swaying his opinion. Having to testify takes up full days where he can’t work, and as a small business owner if he’s not working, he’s not making money.

Typically and expert witness has another job (doctor, psychologist etc.) In order to appear in court they have to clear their schedule the ENTIRE time the court case it scheduled for, as sometimes they dont know what day they may appear, if the case will be extended or rescheduled etc. Meaning they lose income. Preparing for trial also takes a ton of work and is often the number one reason someone is reported to the board. What they charge is deserved.

I think there should be more regulation around what counts as an expert witness though. I mean, look at the damage this “expert” has done.

The real question is why wouldn’t they be paid? It’s their job. They went to school for this and spent a good majority of their life preparing to do these things. Testifying is not charity work. If you’d pay for a lawyer, why wouldn’t you pay another 3rd party who is involved? 
Just makes no sense to me not to pay them. Eventually once I finish school, I will have to do this for my job and yes, I expect to be paid.

I 100% agree with this. For example, my mom is a nurse. She makes over $50 an hour. If she has to take off her work day to testify, she’d lose a $600+ work day. If they didn’t pay them, they definitely wouldn’t bother.

My husband has had to do this. They should be paid, it's time out of their work day. If they werent paid for this, they would lose alot of money potentially.

Why else would an expert do that? It’s not fun. They aren’t going to do it for free.

Yes, they have to take off from work and often prepare for it to attend. It makes sense that they be compensated or else you might not see people doing it.
