How do I approach this the right way?

My spouse has been drinking heavily for a while now and I just noticed he drinks at least one 25.4 oz bottle of vodka a day. I've tried telling him I don't want to be with him while he's drinking and he just gets mad and makes me feel stupid. He gets so defensive when I bring up his drinking. He is choosing it over both of his kids and I. Half of the time he is very mean while drinking. What should I do?

You need to get out of that situation before it becomes worst. It’s the absolute worst feeling when someone makes you feel dumb for wanting to protect your peace, the safety of your family and your relationship. It can really make you feel hopeless and helpless. Currently I’m transitioning out of my apartment because my child’s father is more interested in drinking and hanging out rather than making sure his relationship is straight. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great father.. but when going out/drinking clouds his judgement, it puts the biggest strain on our relationship and things that don’t need to be said are said and it’s a whole bunch of apologies the next day....... until it happens again.
