When to request maternity leave?

How soon did you’s request maternity leave? I’m due January 10th and I wasn’t sure if I should request my days off starting the week of Christmas, or the week of New Years, or just working until my due date?

I wouldn't request off so early before your due date... I'm due December 4th I just called to put my request in today and my first day of leave will be decemeber 2nd unless she comes early. I wouldnt either work up until your due date or request only a couple days before just to make sure everything is ready. You dont wanna use all your leave before she gets here. You can put the request in the earlier the better but as far as the day you actually leave I would wait till at least a couple days before you are due.

Request the leave now so they have plenty of time to get someone to cover you and whatever you think is best for you and your family if you feel you need a few weeks to yourself to get prepared before baby comes do it, I realise heaps of people work till they are due but do what is best for you.

I had to put my request in now because I’m having to miss work for doctor appointments so they make me use days from my maternity leave for that I get 6 weeks but the days are going down and I’m only 4 months pregnant I’ve had to use 3 days so far since I have one appointment every month. And soon I’ll have to use 2 days a month and then 1 day every week. So just depends on how your job handles it

Depends on how long your leave is. I started at 37 weeks for both babies and was grateful for the time to rest and prepare, but I get a year

I’m due Jan 21 and my last day will be Dec 29. I’m thinking my baby will be early like her brother and sister were and I want time to prepare. Ill be back to work late February-early March

I’m due Jan 11 and I’m beginning my leave Dec 21. I figure i will want the last two weeks two prepare and relax. I’ve heard you get pretty miserable by then. I have 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave.

Depends on your pregnancy :) I’m planning on staying till the week before I’m due but only cause I’m not doing anything like crazy hard. If I get too uncomfortable I’ll prob request sooner.
