Light controversy- sweatpants in public

St

Here’s a more lighthearted controversy I’ve noticed. Wearing pajama pants or sweats in public- is it inappropriate?

My SO lives in an apartment building that’s mostly students and it has a small Dunkin Donuts on the ground floor. This morning he placed an order and I ran downstairs to pick it up with him. Since we just woke up I was in a hoodie and shorts and I slipped on my Uggs. He was in flannel pants and a sweatshirt.

While we were waiting for our order I noticed a woman and an older man giving me the stink eye. I thought nothing of it until they made it a point to move next to us and the man loudly said “I haven’t owned a pair of sweatpants since ‘74”.

I’ve heard before people being offended when others do errands like picking up coffee, grocery shopping, etc. in dressed down like this.

I personally don’t see an issue. If I’m just popping out the house for something I’m not going to put together an outfit. Just because someone wears pajamas for errands doesn’t mean they don’t dress appropriately for work, school, and other things.

What do you think?
