Cross eyed ?

My 2 year old goes cross eyed maybe 2-3 times per day. It used to be a few times a month but now is getting a bit worse so I’m getting concerned. Is this something I go to his pediatrician about, or directly to an eye dr? I was told by family this is an indication that he’ll need glasses (everyone in our family has them)

I used to work for an ophthalmologist. You should schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist, not a optometrist. Optometrists are mostly concerned with correcting vision with glasses, but an ophthalmologist looks at anatomy & alignment. You may need a referral from your pediatrician.

I’d get seen right away. Might need immediate intervention. My cousin has a “lazy eye”. I forget the actual diagnosis. Luckily they caught it early or she could have been legally blind.

Absolutely worth checking with an eye doc! Can be her focus that are a bit of at times, she might need glasses to correct something, or it might be nothing. But if it is some refraction error there that needs to be corrected, and isn’t it might lead to amblyopia.

Id tell her doc just incase. I knew a little girl whose eyes would cross if she didnt wear her glasses. I dont understand why tho.

My daughter went through this and we determined it was her being eccentric. We had her eyes tested and she has great vision and no physical issues with the eye. 
We still have to remind her at almost 6 not to cross her eyes when she’s telling a super animated story! 
I’d bring it up to your pediatrician and maybe get a checkup by a pediatric optometrist to be sure.
