Effective Immediately?

hey ladies, so i was pregnant recently..i went and had an abortion October 19 and when i was there i was told i was 8 weeks. I had spotting after that for about two weeks. I just started my Xulane patch this past Sunday (my period has yet to come on after this abortion), i had unprotected sex again this past Wednesday..i just wanted to know if you think the patch has started working effective immediately or should I be safe and take an emergency contraceptive?
