Should I get this other job?
I have a job that is a skill not many people have. They hired me on the spot because they needed someone and it’s so hard to find someone who can do this job without years of training. (I have had years of training). They rely so much on me and without me their business would probably crumble. But I am only getting paid 12.50 a hour, which is actually better than what other business would pay for the same job. For this job it’s general that you only get a 50 cent raise every year. There are no benefits, never are at these small businesses. Truthfully I deserve way more than what I am getting for the hard work that I do. I am guaranteed to never be replaced because of my years of experience and serious lack of other people being able to do the job. I’ve been working there two years so far.
But I have a small opportunity to work somewhere else doing a entirely different job with way better pay and some benefits. I think I would like this job better (less physical labor). But it is something tons of people could do and it’s not a skill. I could easily be replaced. My mom warned me that this job is just not guaranteed that I could work there as long as I would wish.
I also don’t have a degree yet. My plan is to continue with classes as I continue to work but I have no idea what my degree should be, i could get a degree for the second job I am thinking of getting or something general just to say I have a degree, since there is no degree for the first job that I have. Neither jobs require a degree though but it would be more helpful if I had one for the second option job.
