Is a master’s degree in Education worth it?

Hi guys. Right now I’ll be transferring to a 4 year school as a junior in January and I have to make the decision of whether I want to get my master’s in education or not. I have to decide now so that I can line my classes up with the master’s degree (prerequisites). 
But is it worth it? I’m not 100% sure I want to teach school. I know I want to teach college. I’m in a program with teaching licensure just in case I want to teach and if nothing else as a job to get me through until I can get my master’s in geology. 
But starting out, would a master’s in education be worth it? I know I would start out making more, but if I decide I don’t want to teach 6-12 would it really be worth much? 
To get my master’s in education it would be around $35,000 in total without books. Plus, I’ll be around $24,000 in debt just to finish my bachelor’s. I just need a third party’s opinion. Especially a teacher’s opinion. 
I know that compared to other colleges, I won’t be in THAT much debt, but I’m still iffy on it since I’m not 100% sure I want to teach 6-12. I just wish I didn’t have to decide before January. I haven’t even taken any education classes yet because my community college didn’t offer any.

My grandmother has her masters in education. She was happy with being an elementary school teacher. I can see the passion she had because she used to rewrite all my essay assignments. Lol. Nothing was good enough until she looked it over and revised it to her liking. So, it depends. Depends on what your passion is and where you see yourself years from now. 
I’m majoring in geology now. However, I’m aspiring to become an Astrobiologist. I’ll be in school longer than you. 😭

It won't add much for grades 6-12 and is pretty useless for college. You would need a masters in the specific class you wanted to teach to teach in college

You will get paid more and make sure you do an internship!! You need the degree and the experience nowadays

If you want to teach college, get a degree in whatever you want to teach. A master's in education will only really benefit you if you want to teach grade school or teach education in college (so teaching teachers how to teach) but in that circumstance, they expect you to devote some of your time to actually being in a grade school classroom anyway.

In most districts in my state (mn) it pays off especially if you do it sooner than later. It’s the biggest pay raise you can give yourself. It’ll pay for itself over time.

My mom went back and did that. She started out as the cheer coach when I was a baby and then decided to go back and get her masters and has been a health teacher since I was pretty young. Just recently she’s been trying for her admin credential. I think it’s definitely worth it if you want to teach especially high school and it’ll just help you work your way up and help you get jobs at better schools. I think it also depends on the state. I live in California, so what is needed is very different from like Arizona just because teachers are much more desperately needed in other states. Like my cousin who is younger than me and gong to be 22 next month just graduated with her bachelors in May and is already a high school chem teacher in Arizona.
