Should a 20-year-old who is in college have to pay rent if they live with their parents?

My moms rule was if we’re in school or working then we’ll never have to pay rent however old we get. Because it’ll always be our home.
If you’re sitting around being a lazy bum then yes you should give her rent.

Yes, yes they should. I'm 20 and I'm lucky enough to not have to pay pills. But I should be paying bills.

If there parents say they need to. The only reason I don’t is because I pay my car payment and am a full time student. But even then, I know I’m fortunate that my parents support me still at 22. They want me to take advantage of living with them as long as possible because I live in Orange County in SoCal and rent is absolutely ridiculous here just due one person in a tiny apartment anywhere.

I was never asked to pay rent when I lived with my parents during college. All they asked is that I went to school, did well in my classes, kept a part time job and helped with chores around the house. I would absolutely have the same rules with any of my kids.

I would say no, not while studying. However if they're working full time, and actually have money, then yes they should pay.
But I'm a student. I am nearly 20. I have NO money. LITERALLY ZERO DOLLARS. I earn enough to pay petrol, food, and that is IT. 
If I were paying rent, I'd have to take out a massive loan. My parents are not so mean as to make me pay them to live in their home, just because I have reached legal 'majority'.

If my kid was a full-time student and working part-time, I wouldn't want them to pay rent (what part-time jobs pay that well?!). But their expenses would be for them to pay (phone, car, their own entertainment, textbooks). Living with me is a choice for them to be able to save money.

If they are working I would say yeah. It’s a nice contribution. Even if it’s $200 a month; something is better than nothing. But some parents wouldn’t accept money from their children

You should be putting something towards the house. Buy groceries or house supplies, or put up rent money. I was in high school paying rent with no job. Using the money I got from selling my art and a little money her friend gives me for allowance every month

If the parents think so then yes. Absolutely. My parents never made me pay rent but if they had asked I would’ve been happy to. Instead I paid for any major repairs the house needed. A 20 year old is a grown adult and should be able to be responsible enough to be able to pay rent. Most likely the rent will be pretty cheap too.

I got my first job at 15 (for us Russians it’s a rule “you work , you pay”). At age of 15 I was paying my part of the rent 500$ and it was actually not a problem  for me at all. Even at 20 y.o while in college (no job) I was paying.
