HPV??

Question

So I’m doing some research on HPV and I’m a little confused. How common is this virus?? If you have the strands that are connected to cancer, how likely is it that you will actually develop cancer? And can those strands stay dormant forever? If you don’t have the cancer connected strand, why do they continue to check, if it won’t progress into anything. And finally, is HPV worth worrying about? Or is it something that’s not worth the stress ( given you always go to your dr appointments)

I had hpv when I was pregnant with my son. The doctor told me that is could be transferred to the baby at birth. HPV can cause you to form cancer. It did me but luckily they caught it in time.

Given you communicate with your doctor and follow up on test results, I wouldn’t worry unless the doctor advises you to. Most strands clear up on their own. Over 80% of sexually active adults have or have had it. I had a strand that cleared up on its own. My husband has it too, his makes the wart on his foot super hard to get rid of.

It's very common actually, and its sexually transmitted, and also sort of mutating, that's why they check over again. 
Some strains cause cervical cancer. It's not very common do develop cancer from it, but abnormal cell reproduction is pretty normal, and that's sort of the begining of cancer if you get it, but not always leading to cancer.

I can’t remember what strains are most likely to cause cervical cancer, HPV 16 and 18 ring a bell but I could be wrong. Essentially most increase the likelihood of cervical cancer but there are (I think) two that are more likely more than the others. 
It’s important to remember that there are also multiple factors that increase your chances of getting cancer, including genetic predisposition. It’s why there are non-smokers who get lung cancer and smokers that don’t, for example. 
HPV is relatively common and is passed through sexual intercourse as well as a few other routes. I recommend getting the HPV vaccine if you can and you haven’t had unprotected sex yet. 
It’s also important to go for regular smear tests when you are asked to as if you do have abnormal cells they can be treated before they have the chance to become cancerous. Hope this helps!

Mine cleared up but I had cervical cancer cells that needed to be removed a few times. I was one of the very rare and extremely unlucky ones that cannot go full term without doctor intervention because of the scarring I have on my cervix

It all depends. Everyone is different and can be effected by a virus differently just due to the strength of their immune system. Hpv is contracted through genitalia and even with a condom, it can be contracted. Like I said, it all depends on one’s susceptibility to viruses. Many people do not get symptoms and live with hpv without even knowing it. Like 80% of women will get at least one strain of hpv in their lifetime or something like that. And many viruses can cause potential for cancer, but it doesn’t mean you will get it. Like I have Epstein-Barr virus which I got when I was 15 and don’t even know how and that virus is known to lead to a few different types of cancers. However, if caught early, people can change their diets or lifestyles and just become healthier to help prevent it from getting to that point. I don’t know when I actually contracted the virus, but there is no treatment yet so if you have it, it just kind of is not bag it is, so my doctor actually suggested I go vegan and I did and that was the best thing I did for my immune system and body. All we can really worry about is our health because some things are just out of our control and not worth stressing about.

I don’t know much about it, but my mother was recently diagnosed with anal cancer and it was because hpv. She is 60
