How did you make the decision on how many children to have?

Really thinking I don't want any more after my first. But I'm torn and having a hard time deciding. Looking for input from people who grew up as an only child also.

I think finances will ultimately be one of the largest factor. We want our children to have a good life and not have to skimp too much. We also are going to consider my health and if my body can handle more, etc. That being said, we will probably have one more (3 total)

I come from a line of large families - my great grandmother had 8 children, my grandmother had 12 (though would have been 14 but she lost a twin at birth and had a miscarriage also) and my mum had 4 children.
I have 5 children and we are currently trying for baby number 6. I thought I was finished at child 4&5 (twins). Though life had a different path for me, my children's father and I divorced in 2015 (all very amicable - still very good friends and co parent amazingly well). I remarried and my new husband and I decided we would like a child together.

Mom of 3 boys and one girl! Baby number 5 due April, another girl! Same father and we’ve been together for 11 years! Our first was a surprise , 2nd was planned and them our younger two weren’t planned just happened. Depends on how you feel !

We are now debating having our 5th!! We had baby #4 in April and she has been such an incredible addition that even the kids are saying one more! One more! 😊 I think new babies bring out the fun and sweetness in adults and kids alike. 
I think considerations for us are always;
 -space (will another make you need to upgrade car/house?)
-childcare (daycare, someone staying home to raise, etc)
-finances (can you afford another child now and in the future- diapers, to sports expenses, to cars, to college & beyond!)
-physical issues (age, can you have another healthy pregnancy, bounce back, etc)
In the end if you check all the boxes it’s about what kind of family dynamic you want. We’re blessed to have a crew that’s motto is “the more the merrier”- but large families aren’t for everyone!

I was really sick as a kid and wasn’t sure If id be able to have kids so I’m over the moon with the one i have. She’s 4 months and sleeps through the night , doesn’t cry much, and we have such a special amazing bond she’s my everything ! I really don’t want anymore but my husband insist on atleast 2, but wants 3. I keep telling him i don’t want one but he said maybe my mind will change later . One thing i DO know is if we can help it ( I’m not on birth control but we use condoms ) i don’t want another one until we have a house ,2 cars and extremely good paying jobs . So I’m thinking maybe 5-10 years ( I’m 21 now so we have time )

I didn’t think I wanted anymore that’s why mine are 5 years apart! Lol Plus financially too. I was able to stay home with my oldest and now I get to with my toddler while my oldest is at school. I love the age gap! We are done now though! Hubs is getting a vasectomy in December! We both knew that we definitely don’t want more than 2! We just knew! I don’t feel that feeling of wanting another. I don’t miss the newborn phase, I’m happy with my 2 girls! We feel whole! You will know when you’re done.  Just go with the flow and see how one goes.

We had decided on two before we got married. Then we had our first and it has been an all around difficult experience for my health. I don’t know if I am medically able to have another child, so right now that is what is determining how many we have.

You just have them until you can’t handle anymore. For some that’s zero and others it’s 5. 
There is a women near me who used to teach gymnastics to little kids. She had baby number 5 and never came back, the owners have no clue what happened, she didn’t call them. I hope she’s doing ok managing😐

My husband and I have decided on two. I personally dont think I could handle more than that. I am an only child. I will admit, it was lonely growing up. I also didnt have any cousins my age so I engaged in a lot of adult conversation at a young age which i do feel like contributed to me maturing earlier on and doing well in life at a young age. But I would BEG my Mom for a sibling (she was a single Mom). It would have been nice to grow up with a sibling. Now that Im older it doesnt bother me not having one. 🤷‍♀️ Ultimately its your decision. Maybe after you have your first you will decide you want another or that you are done. Its a personal choice!
