Are A Lot of Kids a Deal Breaker?

I met a really sweet guy a couple weeks ago and we’ve been talking quite a bit. We both knew we had kids but never specified how many we each had until today. I have two and he said that was great. When I asked him how many he has he kind of hesitated and said he didn’t want to scare me. I said I’d rather he be honest then have me find out later. So he told me he has six. Six kids. I would have never guessed but he does.

He said he doesn’t really tell people that right away because it scares people off. He also told me his employer didn’t even know until 5 months after he started the job. It’s like he is scared to admit he has six kids. Luckily, they’re all his and have the same mother (he’s divorced). The youngest is 3 and the oldest is 14.

Is it wrong of me to be so guarded about how many he has? I don’t mind that he has kids but if things ever got serious I don’t know if I’d be able to handle 8 kids. I feel really bad about this. I love kids...but 6 is a lot. 😬 I’m sure some of you will call me selfish, dumb, whatever. But really I’m just in shock and I’m worried that it’s wrong of me to be so startled by it. He’s a great guy but man...it’s SIX kids!
