Is it racist to give a white baby a black baby doll?

At biglots today my 8 month old grabbed for a baby doll that happened to be black and I handed it to her.. but my husband took it from her and handed her a white baby doll because he said it was racist to give her a black baby doll 🤷

My 9 month old has a black doll and a white doll, she's white and loves both of them. Personally I think it teaches them diversity and equality. Don't see anything racist about it.
