HELP THIS SHIT IS SO WEIRD

I’ve just recently gone back on the pill after a year of not being on it. I usually take 3 weeks worth of pills and then have a 7 day break where I have a period...my doctor advised me that this time I should start the new pack straight away instead of taking a 7 day break and take a break when I start spotting.

I don’t know if I went wrong by continuing to take my pill when I was spotting but I’ve been bleeding light to mid flow for about 17days now. I’ve stopped taking the pill as I’ve decided that I should have a 7 day break before I start the next pack and I now have my normal period flow (my cycle is definitely changed and messed up) but I’m worried that when the 7 days are over and I go back on the pill I’ll still be bleeding.

Is this considered breakthrough bleeding as my body readjusts to all the hormones or should I go back to my doctor???

Big confused as this has never happened to me and I’ve been on this exact same pill before.
