Normal??

Katie

Okay ladies, I’m about to be super honest about my periods and I could honestly use some help. I know you’re not professionals (most likely), but I need to know if this is normal.

I started my period when I was 12 years old and now I’m almost 20. At first my periods weren’t too bad, but once I got to high school they RANDOMLY got so much worse! I started having sharp pains around my ovaries during my periods as well as almost stabbing pains through my vagina and even my butt. Yes. My butt. I started bleeding more and having big clots.

I was told that was normal. But I felt like I couldn’t properly function during my period. I would be so sick and cramp and have awful headaches. I would bleed so much and just feel so weak and tired.

About two years ago I was put on birth control because my periods started to be either two weeks late or two weeks early and my symptoms got worse. I would be on my bathroom floor (it’s tile) because I would feel so hot and I would just be shaking, almost like convulsions is how my step sister described it when she had to bring me water and extra strength midol.

I was told everything about my period symptoms were normal and that I just need to be put on BC pills because of them starting to become irregular.

So I started pills and I was miserable. I was on one type of pill for about six months and I couldn’t take it anymore. I felt like crap 24/7 and my periods weren’t getting any better.

I was prescribed a different pill - Mylan - and have been on it for a little over 9 months now and it hasn’t helped either. Granted, I only get a period once every three months, but I still feel like crap half the time and my actual periods just aren’t any better. I get stabbing pains. I will admit I’m not bleeding as much, but the pain I’m in feels like I’m bleeding nothing but huge clots. With this pill I’ve gotten the worst migraines of my life and have one about once a week and can’t get any relief.

I suggested maybe I have endometriosis or cysts or SOMETHING because I’m convinced my pain isn’t normal. I also have a burning sensation during sex and when I try to put a tampon in. I can’t wear tampons because it burns SO bad just to have it in for 1 minute.

My gynecologist says I’m overreacting and that she can’t really diagnose me with anything because it requires testing. So she said that maybe a hormonal IUD would help.

I went in to get the Skyla IUD at the beginning of November and couldn’t! When the midwife tried inserting the speculum I was screaming and crying! It only made it an INCH inside of me and it felt like she was lighting me on fire!! I decided I couldn’t do it and my vagina burned for THIRTEEN HOURS after the first initial try (she tried four times and got no further than an inch).

I go back in January to try again for the IUD by being put under local anesthesia since my gynecologist truly believes that it’s my best shot at helping my periods but I just want to know if anything’s wrong with me?!?

It doesn’t seem normal for this kind of pain at all! I am honestly to the point where I wish I could just have a hysterectomy and be done with it. Does anyone else experience this??
