A lot of close family refusing to get TDaP and flu vaccines.

I’m not looking to get into an argument about vaccines etc. my husband have always been strict about vaccinating our children as well as ourselves and we have all been very healthy.

BUT that being said- we have always had Spring and Summer babies. This is our first winter baby and therefore the first time we’ve had to have vaccine conversations with our family.

Our hospital is strongly recommending (not sure if it is requiring but it did sound like if people didn’t have the vaccines for flu or whooping cough they would not be allowed access to visit the maternity ward)

It’s put me in such an awkward position because for the first time I’m finding out that a lot of my family has started becoming more anti vaccine. My siblings can not receive it because of seizure issues - so I understand that. BUT my mom is making me feel awful about asking her to get the booster or shot (whichever she would need) and it’s upsetting me because she would be around our new baby fairly often. How can I deny her access to the hospital?! I feel absolutely awful but also so upset because I want my baby to be safe. Our community here in Kentucky was on the news last year for over 26 ACTIVE pertussis outbreaks just in the elementary school alone. So I know people here are coming in contact with it.

My aunts and uncles also refuse to get it. Thankfully my husbands family all said “no problem!” But I’m getting so much grief from my family. I have no problem telling friends that visiting is a no go until my baby gets her own vaccines. But how do I tell family? Sorry for the longish post. It’s just giving me so much anxiety especially since this has become such a hot button topic lately.

The flu shot I’m more iffy on requiring but I will definitely ask about masks maybe? But even we got our flu shots. This whole things just stresses me out.

Any advice is welcome but please no lectures if you’re going to beat me down for vaccinating my kids.
