What’s a good age to tell kids Santa ain’t real?

Asking out of curiosity. 
I have 3 little cousins 9,8, and 6  and the oldest this year for Christmas gave my uncle and aunt a list of what she wanted. In that list was:
A laptop
An iPhone 
A drawing tablet
And other expensive things 
And my uncle told her:
“Santa ain’t real, mommy and daddy gotta buy all this and we can’t afford it” 
Personally I think it’s funny but do you guys think he was right to say that?

Side note. If you decide to tell your kids Santa isn’t real, please make sure your child doesn’t ruin it for other kids!
I’ve known a few parents who told their kids Santa wasn’t real, and then their kids went to school the next day and told everyone Santa wasn’t real and ruined it for everyone.
Tell your kid whatever you want about Santa, but make sure to tell them that some kids still believe and that’s okay.

However if they haven’t asked by 16 or 17 you need to have a conversation with them about their observation skills.

We told ours at 5 because he asked once he was in kindergarten. We did tell him not to tell anyone else so that was safe. 
But my husband doesn’t want Santa taking credit for the things we buy our son. We work hard to provide him with gifts at Xmas and we let my parents do a stocking at their house on Xmas morning if they want.

The kid I have which understood Santa still believes at 9 and I have no plans on telling him otherwise. He'll be an innocent kid as long as he can be before he has to deal with all that trash in the outside world.

My parents made Christmas so fun with Santa. But made it clear that Santa only gets you one preset and they get the rest.
My youngest brother questioned Santa from the time he was 4 and never really believed.
I remember kind of questioning it, but wanting to believe so bad! I think I was 11 to be honest! 😂

I have never led my child to believe in Santa. I let him decide on his own, I humored him for a few years and tagged a modest present from Santa and then he caught and and realized that Santa isn’t real but would still like me to tag a gift from Santa just for the younger kids that come here Christmas morning. He hasn’t believed in Santa for at least 3 years now and he’s 8.
