Lumpectomy while breastfeeding

Has anybody had a lumpectomy (removal of a breast lump) while breastfeeding? How did it go? Did it interfere with breastfeeding at all?

Background: I have a breast lump that has throughly been looked at (physical exam, mammogram, and ultrasound) by doctors and I was told that it is nothing to worry about but I could have it removed for my peace of mind. The surgeon recommended waiting until I was done breastfeeding but I find myself just wanting it gone so I don’t have to think about it anymore and worry about the slight chance that it actually is cancer and they missed something. My son is 11 months old so he is relying less and less on breastfeeding as a food source but I don’t see him quitting anytime soon.
