Holiday travel best option?

We will be visiting my family who lives 4 hours away the weekend before Christmas. We have Christmas with my moms family that Sunday & will be traveling back after the party. The meal will be at 1:00 & im guessing we will wrap up between 3-4. At which point LO (9 months) will need a nap & normal bedtime is 7:00.

Option 1 we leave immediately from the party towards home. LO will hopefully rest some in the car & we'll get home between 8-9 & put him to bed then.

Option 2. We wait until bedtime to head home & hope LO sleeps most of the way, then transition to his crib when we get home.

Leaving the next morning or skipping the party are not options.
