Midwife or OBGYN?

Question

I called and scheduled my first OBGYN appointment with my first baby and she scheduled me with a midwife. What is that? Was that the right decision? Are they just as good as obgyn? Will midwife still do all my blood tests? And ulstrasounds?  Im alittle scared now but that was the soonest i could get in. Or i would have to wait till the middle of janaury and thats to long!

I agree with the above comments, I actually saw both a midwife and OBGYN at the same time I am currently 30weeks pregnant. My midwife spends a lot of time asking questions checks my blood pressure and measures my fundal height, she can also check for bloodwork and ultrasounds, but so far she’s only given me two ultrasounds a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks and a anatomy ultrasound at 18 weeks. I went to see the OBGYN near my house for some heart burn medication (because she’s so close, takes walk-ins) she barely speaks to me did no assessments I left her office with bloodwork urineanalysis, abdominal ultrasound to check my gallbladder and pancreas.... when I saw my midwife on Friday she laughed and said all the tests were overkill for heartburn for (non-risk healthy person) 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ goes to show you how midwifes see you as a person not a patient with a condition to diagnose without asking subjective questions.

Sometimes you see a midwife or PA for the first appointment anyway.  I saw the PA first for both and then the OB (different groups).

I think midwives are better. My first pregnancy I had two different OB/GYNs and I though the overall experience was blah. Like they just see you as a medical condition and not a human growing another human so for my next pregnancy I decided on a midwife and it was SO much better. They just seem to care more about you as a person and how you’re doing and how the baby is doing. They’ll spend more time with you asking questions, answering questions, and just giving you information. They do exactly the same thing as an OB/GYN like all the testing and ultrasounds the only difference is that an OB/GYN handles things other than pregnancies and a midwife focuses (for the most part) solely on pregnancy. I’m also seeing a midwife again this pregnancy and I don’t know if I’ll ever voluntarily see an OB/GYN for a pregnancy again.

In my opinion midwives are better than OBGYNs. And they can do everything an OBGYN can do.
