Soothing or Hungry?

LO is almost 8 weeks and has been really into sucking his hand lately. My question is how do I know if he's just wanting to suck and soothe, or if he's hungry? I've always followed his hand to mouth cues as signs of hunger, but now I don't know. I fed him recently, but you never know when they're going through growth spurts. Any mommas have similar experiences or thoughts on the matter?

Idk! Baby is definitely discovering their hands at this point and so alot of it is just developmental. It's so hard for me because my baby will latch on whenever offered. So I just feel like I'm back to constantly nursing again because I never know when hes truly hungry.

Mine is doing the same thing! And I’m not really sure, when she starts sucking really loud like smacking she is definitely hungry, but otherwise I keep guessing.

About that age it becomes a developmental thing and not a hunger thing. We EBF and I’ll hold him near my breast and see if he tries to root. That’s about all the signs I get these days.

Have just realized this about my guy just thought he was always hungry but now I have realized it’s also his sign for being sleepy. So I will walk him for a bit when he starts it if he is sleepy he falls asleep I. About 5 min if he is hungry he starts to cry. If he doesn’t fall asleep in 10 min then I’ll feed him again.

My baby sucks his hands all of the time now but he is more aggressive when he is hungry and clenches his fist.

If she’s really loud Ill assume she’s hungry but this morning she was doing it and I gave her a paci and she put herself to sleep.

My 8 week old just started to suck her hands also.. I know she’s not hungry cause she does it after feeding as will.
